Thanksgiving Turkey Trots
For me, Thursday will mark the beginning of the 2011 winter holiday season. To me, that means time with friends, family, but it also makes me think of all of the delicious desserts and food that will be consumed over the next month. So at every opportunity I get, I like to gather a group of friends and sign up for a local 5k. This can at least make me feel a little better about that extra piece of pie I might eat, right?!
For runners, the thanksgiving holiday is always known to have some great 3 – 5 mile Turkey Trots. Race suggestions from Boston.Com, I have included below a few local races that might help get your holiday off to a positive start:
1) Marathon Sports 15th Annual Gobble Gobble Gobble 4 Miler – Located in Somerville, Massachusetts this race will kick off at 9:00 AM. This Marathon Sports 4 mile event has been named one of the top 100 New England Races from 2003 – 2010!
2) Chase the Turkey 4.2 Mile Cross-Country Run – A little further from the city, but if you find yourself vacationing on the Cape, this race takes you from the Falmouth Academy through Beebe Woods.
3) Wild Turkey 5 Mile Run – This is proud to be known as the largest race on the North Shore! You can be sure to always find a holiday event in Salem, Ma.
4) Feaster Five Thanksgiving Day Road Race – Located in Andover, Ma this competition includes a 5K, 5 miler, and a kid’s race, and my favorite party – each finisher receives an apple pie!
