Boston’s New Bike-share Program

I was excited to write today’s post because I have read that in just 2 days, Boston’s own New Balance Hubway bike-share program will launch with an inaugural ride on Thursday, July 28th at 10:00 AM.  Hubway is a great way to be more active, more green, and the way I see it a more fun and easy way to commute to your favorite destinations around Boston.

Officials have said they will begin with 600 bicycles provided throughout 61 stations, and Hubway allows for 24 hour access to bicycles for your convenience to run errands, get to and from work, and ride to your next destination.

By the end of the week, New Balance Hubway will roll out its program to downtown Boston, the South End, and it is said to include other local neighborhoods including Allston and Brighton. Click here for their official kiosk map.  I am hoping once the program kicks off, they are able to expand into other nearby cities including Cambridge & Somerville!

So how does Hubway work?  According to New Balance Hubway’s official website, once you sign up for an annual membership, it unlocks a key for your access to all 61 kiosks.  Memberships are offered on a yearly, daily, and hourly basis.  Rides under 30 minutes are free after your initial sign-up fee.  Once you are registered you gain access to your own Hubway key that allows you to retrieve available bikes at any of the 61 bike stations.

I look forward to trying out the new way to commute through the city! Let me know what you think!
