Summer Runs on the Charles River
Are you trying to qualify for a race, get in shape, or soak in the gorgeous summer weather? Enjoy the scenic 3 and 5-mile routes from the Westin Copley Place around the Charles River. Try this beautiful, historic trail leaving from the Westin Copley traveling over the Harvard Bridge out to MIT, passing by the Museum of Science, and the popular Hatch Shell.
I always find myself coming up with an excuse why not to go – you got out of work late, it’s too hot outside, or you really don’t want to get out of bed when you’re alarm goes off early in the morning. As you know, there’s always come up with a reason why not to do it. It wasn’t until I started training for a summer triathlon I was able to realize that the positives always outweigh the reasons to skip it.
1) Everyone’s doing it! Think of that first nice day you have after the long winter –
everyone is outside, everyone wants to get involved. Whether it’s a short walk or a long ride, it makes you feel a part of the community and there’s always company on the Charles River Esplanade.
2) Set a goal for yourself. Have you ever wanted to participate in that 5K or 10 mile bike ride? Set a summer goal to be able to complete one by the fall.
3) It’s a great way to see a new city! In Boston on business or vacation? Skip the ducktours and double-decker buses and see the city on your own two feet. Get to know Boston and get your workout in at the same time.
4) Make it a social event. Get a group of friends together after work and train together. Once you complete your run, you can come back and enjoy a cold drink at Bar 10!
What are some of your favorite activities to do on the Charles?
